As stated earlier, LARAS sent again, this year, a team to participate in the “Limited Time” contest during Laval Virtual.

Robin, Mike, Simon and Pierre-Axel had to create a game in 30 hours which must include a mysterious object. The object was a yo-yo.

Dans le cadre du congrès Laval-Virtual à Laval en France, notre équipe (Robin, Mike, Simon et Pierre-Axel) a commencé 30 heures de développement non-stop pour gagner le concours Virtual Fantasy catégorie “temps limité”.

10 équipes s’affrontent depuis 10h ce matin avec pour objectif le développement d’une application originale mettant en scène un “objet mystère”. Il n’y a pas de restriction quant aux outils de développement utilisés, mais cette année deux nouvelles technologies sont mises en avant :  un “eye-tracker” de Tobii et un “leap-motion”.

L’objet mystère de notre équipe est un yo-yo. A eux de développer une application originale qui impressionnera le jury ! Vont-ils l’utiliser comme canne-à-pêche, comme corde-à-sauter ou encore comme arme blanche ?? Résultat de leur application dans 22h30 !

Laras team is participating to an intensive Erasmus programme (IP) from the 27th of January until the 8th of February. This year theme is “Mobility Interfaces in 2050“. This programme is subsidied by our belgian european agency. Twenty students from Austria, Portugal, Brussels and Gent are participating. A public presentation will happen in Graz, at ESC on the 7th of February.

We participate to Artech 2012, the sixth international conference on Digital Arts held at University of Algarve in the South of Portugal. It aims to create a forum for the emerging digital arts bringing together the scientific, technological and artistic community. The goal is to promote the interest in the digital culture and its intersection with art and technology as an important research field, but also as a common space for discussion and exchange of new experiences.

 

We will talk about our project “InteNtion – Interactive Network Sonification – as an Installation”.

Cette année encore, Laras a accueilli des stagiaires en informatique grâce au programme “stages Erasmus”. Parmi eux, Pierre Lafièvre, brillant étudiant en 3ième année à l’Esigetel, a travaillé sur la conception d’un outil de contrôle d’un robot industriel KUKA via ethernet.

Son travail a été divisé en deux parties : d’une part, la création d’une librairie en C#, permettant d’utiliser les commandes élémentaires du bras robotique KUKA, et d’autre part, un serveur temps réel (Linux Xenomai) permettant de contrôler le robot ainsi que de transmettre les mouvements depuis une machine cliente (PC, smartphone, etc.).

Pour la réalisation du projet, Pierre a collaboré avec Valérian Goalec, artiste français souhaitant “faire dessiner le robot avec différents matériels, pinceau, stylo, aérographe etc”. Voici un vidéo montrant le robot suivre les mouvements d’un stylet sur une tablette Wacom.

Rudi Giot et Jacques TICHON ont participé à la conférence « International Conference on Auditory Display 2012 (June 18, 2012 – June 21, 2012) » – ICAD2012  au « Georgia Institute of Technology » à Atlanta.

Rudi Giot a présenté une conférence intitulée : « InteNtion – Interactive Network Sonification ».

“Le processus de mise en oeuvre d’une forme, d’un dessin est la base de ma recherche de plasticien. Les oeuvres produites sont intimement liées à l’interaction entre l’outil et l’être humain, et sont le résultat formel et physique de ma pratique.

Dans le cadre du LARAS, il s’agit d’un travail de recherche. Je souhaite faire dessiner le robot avec différents matériels, pinceau, stylo, aérographe etc. avec l’obtention d’une régularité, d’une perfection du trait inaccessible à l’être humain. Les dessins ainsi créés émanent de la programmation de base du robot. Mes prochaines recherches s’étendront vers des dessins plus complexes et la réalisation d’oeuvres en volume”

Valérian Goalec – juin 2012

Pour Panorama 10, Valérian Goalec présentera son travail de recherche effectué durant sa résidence à l’institut supérieur industriel de Bruxelles.

Son travail, principalement orienté sur la notion de rythme et d’aléatoire sera ici présent sous forme de séries de dessins émanant de la programmation d’un robot.
